Built for Weather
If your shutters are going to be painted, composite deserves a serious look. Our composite shutters are made from Extira, an engineered exterior panel that resists moisture, rot and termites and holds paint for years. It does not split, check or warp the way solid wood can in a wet or humid climate, which makes it the right material for a shutter that faces the weather every day.
The styles match our wood lines: louvered in three louver sizes, raised panel, flat panel, board and batten, and framed board and batten. Louvers and vertical boards are routed out of a single solid piece, so there are no joints to open up. Each shutter is 1-1/4" thick with 2-1/2" stiles and rails, and it comes primed at no charge, ready for your finish coat.
Because composite skips the drying and milling steps solid lumber needs, these shutters ship in approximately 3–4 weeks, faster than our wood shutters. Like everything we build, they are made in our own shop and backed by our 5-year material and workmanship warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Extira composite?
Extira is an engineered exterior panel made for outdoor use. It resists moisture, rot and termites, holds paint well, and does not split or warp the way solid wood can. It is the right choice for any painted shutter in a wet or humid climate.
Do composite shutters come primed?
Yes. Every composite shutter is primed free with General Finishes Enduro White Undercoat, ready for your finish coat. Painted finishes are also available.
Can composite shutters be stained?
No. Composite has no wood grain, so it is made to be painted. If you want a stained shutter, choose one of our wood lines.
How long does it take to build my composite shutters?
Composite shutters ship in approximately 3–4 weeks from our shop, faster than our wood lines because there is no drying or milling of solid lumber.
Do composite shutters qualify for free shipping?
Yes. We offer free shipping on composite shutters less than 76" long. Larger sizes ship with an Oversize Shipping Fee. See our Shipping Information page for details.
How large can a composite shutter be built?
Online, up to 24" wide and 96" long. Larger sizes, up to 55" wide, are available by quote: email sales@sunbeltshutters.com.
Are your composite shutters covered by a warranty?
Yes. Since we build the shutters, we stand behind them with our 5-year material and workmanship warranty.
