The Shutter Everyone Pictures First
Ask someone to draw a shutter and they will draw a louvered one. Rows of angled slats in a simple frame: it sheds rain, throws shade across the glass, and lets air move on a hot afternoon. It has been on American houses since the 1700s and it still looks right on nearly every one of them, from a Cape Cod cottage to a brick Georgian to a new build on the coast.
Why spend so much on a home and then hang mass-produced plastic beside the windows? Real wood louvered shutters change how a house reads from the street. The louvers catch light differently through the day, the frame has real depth, and the proportions can be set to your windows instead of the nearest stock size.
Ours are built the way outdoor woodwork should be: hand-assembled joints, screw-type construction rather than staples, and corrosion-resistant fasteners throughout. The wood is furniture-grade Select Grade from managed forests. Because we build them in our own shop and never out-source construction, we control the quality at every step and pass the savings on to you.

Choose Your Wood
All four are furniture-grade Select Grade from managed forests. Each comes with standard 1/4" louvers or heavier 3/8" louvers. If you plan to paint, pine is the value choice; for grain under a stain, look at Red Grandis or mahogany. Prefer no wood at all? The same styles are available in Extira composite.

What is a plantation louvered shutter?
A louvered shutter is a frame of stiles and rails holding rows of angled slats, or louvers. The louvers shed rain, shade the glass and let air move. It is the classic exterior shutter you see on Colonial, Cape Cod, Georgian and coastal homes, and our best seller.
Which style should I choose?
The numbers in each style name show how the louver field is divided. Atlanta 100 is one uninterrupted field; Charleston 50/50 has a single center rail; Chattanooga 33/33/33 has two rails. Match the rail positions to the muntins or the proportions of your windows, or call us with a photo and we will suggest one.
Are the louvers fixed or movable?
Our standard louvers are fixed at a set angle. A faux tilt rod is available as an option for the traditional look of operable louvers without the moving parts.
How long does it take to build my louvered shutters?
Your custom louvered shutters ship in approximately 6–8 weeks from our shop. Since every shutter is built to order, we recommend ordering early for construction and remodeling deadlines.
Do louvered shutters qualify for free shipping?
Yes. We offer free shipping on louvered shutters less than 76" long. Larger sizes ship with an Oversize Shipping Fee. See our Shipping Information page for details.
How large can a louvered shutter be built?
