Do you sell both custom and standard-size exterior shutters?
Yes. Our wood and composite shutters are built to order in the size, style, and options you choose. Our vinyl shutters are standard-size decorative shutters offered in fixed widths and lengths and a range of colors, so they cost less and are not custom built.
What is the difference between wood, composite, and vinyl shutters?
Wood shutters are made to order from your choice of wood species with the widest range of sizes, styles, and architectural options, including certain stain-grade choices. Composite shutters are made to order from a paint-grade exterior composite that resists moisture and material movement, which makes them a good choice for painted shutters in demanding climates. Vinyl shutters are standard-size, maintenance-free decorative shutters and are our most affordable option.
Can exterior shutters be functional as well as decorative?
Many of our custom wood and composite shutters can be ordered for functional use with the appropriate hinges, pintles, and shutter dogs, or installed as fixed decorative shutters. Standard vinyl shutters are decorative only and mount flat beside the window. Bahama shutters are not certified hurricane or storm shutters.
How do I measure my windows for shutters?
Measure the height on both sides of the window and use the smaller measurement, then measure the width of the opening and divide by two for a single window to find the width of each shutter. Measuring to the 1/8" is all we need for our custom shutters. Our How to Measure page walks through single, double, and triple windows, and Bahama shutters need extra allowance for hinges and arms.
Do exterior shutters qualify for free shipping?
Free shipping is offered on qualifying shutters shipped within the continental United States. Qualifying sizes vary by product line: traditional styles less than 76 inches tall and 24 inches wide, and Bahama shutters less than 76 inches tall and 72 inches wide. Oversized shutters carry a $200 per-order fee, and standard shipping fees apply to hardware and sample shutters. See our Shipping page for the current policy.
What warranty comes with my shutters?
Coverage depends on the material. Wood shutters carry a 5-year material and workmanship warranty (pine carries 1 year), Extira composite shutters carry 5 years, and factory primer and paint are warranted for 1 year. Vinyl shutters are covered by Ply Gem’s Mastic V.I.P. Limited Lifetime Warranty. The warranty transfers once to the next owner of the home. How long will my order take to build and ship?
Custom wood shutters ship in approximately 6 to 8 weeks and composite shutters in about 3 to 4 weeks. Shipping adds 1 to 8 days from Huntsville, Alabama. Vinyl shutters are standard sizes and ship sooner. We email tracking the day after your order ships. Rush production is available for a 30% fee; call to arrange it.
