About the Cast Iron New York Hinge & Pintle Sets
Everything to hang one pair of shutters: four heavy cast iron New York hinges, almost 1/4" thick, and four pintles with the same offset. The hinges lift off the pins for painting. The no-offset set is designed for new construction.
John Wright's New York style hardware is heavy cast iron with a textured black powder coat and slotted screws, the way the originals were made. The hinges lift off their 7/16" pins for painting and removal, and the line uses its own pin size, so pair it with John Wright pintles and hinges only.
Choosing the offset
Offset is the distance from the mounting surface to the center of the pin. The hinge offset plus the pintle offset must clear any trim, brick mould or siding between the shutter and the wall so the shutter closes flat.
- Flat trim or none: a flat or small-offset hinge on a 3/4" pintle is usually enough.
- Brick mould or thick casing: step up to 1 3/4" or 2 1/4", or use a brick-mount pintle.
- Deep reveals or stone: the longest offsets or an adjustable lag pintle.

Which offset do I need?
The offset has to clear any trim between the shutter and the wall. The no-offset set suits new construction with little or no trim; step up to 1 1/2" or 2 1/4" for brick mould and thicker casings.
Which hinges and pintles does it work with?
John Wright cast iron New York style hinges and pintles, which share a 7/16" pin. Lynn Cove New York (3/8") and Suffolk (1/2") hardware use different pins.
