About the Suffolk Lag Pintle
A lag pintle screws straight into the wall instead of mounting on a plate. Drive it into a lead or masonry anchor in brick and stone, or into solid framing on a wood-sided home. How far you drive it sets the offset, so one pintle covers a range of trim depths.
Suffolk is Lynn Cove's heavier colonial style. Every Suffolk hinge and pintle shares a 1/2" pin, so any Suffolk hinge drops onto any Suffolk pintle, and a matched hinge pair supports up to 75 lb. Pieces are galvanized or 18-8 stainless steel under a black powder coat, and Lynn Cove ships them with stainless wood screws.
Choosing the offset
Offset is the distance from the mounting surface to the center of the pin. The hinge offset plus the pintle offset must clear any trim, brick mould or siding between the shutter and the wall so the shutter closes flat.
- Flat trim or none: a flat or small-offset hinge on a 3/4" pintle is usually enough.
- Brick mould or thick casing: step up to 1 3/4" or 2 1/4", or use a brick-mount pintle.
- Deep reveals or stone: the longest offsets or an adjustable lag pintle.

What do I need for brick?
Drill for a lag shield or masonry anchor and drive the pintle into it. Lynn Cove lag shield anchors are listed under shims, screws and fasteners.
Which hinges and pintles does it work with?
Any Lynn Cove Suffolk-style hinge or pintle. The whole Suffolk line shares a 1/2" pin. New York style hardware uses a smaller 3/8" pin and will not fit.
Galvanized or stainless steel?
Lynn Cove recommends galvanized steel for homes at least 20 miles from the coast and stainless steel for coastal homes and storm shutters. Both carry the same black powder coat.
